It takes a village…
Wow can you believe it, it has been 11 yrs since Austin had a dream to put on a bluegrass show to raise money for Special Olympic on Manitoulin Island. Bluegrass in the Country was born. We started with a small show in Providence Bay and with the help of many volunteers it has grown into a popular bluegrass festival weekend on the Ontario Bluegrass circuit.
2020 is the 11th anniversary of Bluegrass in the Country and we are proud to bring you the amazing… Claire Lynch! 7 times International Bluegrass Award winner
All proceeds from this festival has been used to provide sport programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities. We run Baseball, Bowling, Track, Curling, Floor hockey, Snowshoeing and Golf programs.
We cover costs like registration, transportation, training and equipment. We also have several social events throughout the year inviting athletes and our local Community Living residents.
We have seen many benefits of Special Olympics. From the smiles on their faces, the new friends made, the feelings of being part of a team, to the feeling of accomplishment by winning in regional, provincial, or a national event and even the world stage. Four Island athletes have represented Canada. One in Greece at the summer games and three others went to South Korea and Austria for the winter games.
In order for us to run these programs we need funds. Bluegrass in the Country has provided this year after year for over 50 athletes for the past nine years. To run this festival we ask businesses to assist us, by sponsoring this event.
